Supporting Excellence, 2017 Fall Giving Campaign

Dear Whitaker Families,Screen Shot 2015-08-09 at 12.31.30 PM

It is time to make our annual financial commitment to Whitaker Elementary School. By contributing to the Whitaker Circle of Commitment, Inc. (WCofC) you are supporting the education experience in ways that would otherwise go unfunded.

In July of 2015, the WCofC was formed as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization with the mission to enhance the educational environment at Whitaker Elementary School. As the financial gap between the school’s resource needs and available funds continued to widen, the WCofC provided a new vehicle to maintain and enhance programming.

WCofC funds are at work in all aspects of our school. During its first two years, funding generated by the WCofC has purchased a classroom set of Chromebooks, eight Chromebook carts to secure existing machines, calculators for the upper grades, new and updated leveled readers for the lower grade levels, the check-in software in the office aimed at increasing our safety, and has subsidized Dancing in the Classrooms for fifth graders. Currently, Boosterthon profit is being used to upgrade the technology of the stage. Our next main focus, which will be ongoing, is professional development of the faculty. WCofC will provide the school with funding flexibility enabling the school to attract and retain superior teachers. Staff development courses and training workshops are a crucial element in the education advancement of our students and not funded by the district. Lastly, the WCofC is developing a list of major school project needs and starting a funding plan to keep the school facilities at a standard we expect at Whitaker Elementary.

The 2017 campaign goal is $40,000 and 100% family participation. We need your help to achieve these goals! During the second week of the campaign, students are encouraged to bring in coins to raise funds toward Lego Education kits. In 2016, the coin drive raised $2,200 to start a Lego collection. This enabled the school to create a curriculum, an after-school club, and science lessons utilizing the product of the student coin contributions!

I ask that you join me in supporting this campaign. Gifts of any size are important and welcome. Collectively, our Whitaker family gifts can ensure our students have the best resources possible. Look for the Giving Campaign brochure in your Tuesday packet for additional information and a giving form. Thank you for supporting excellence at Whitaker!
